LOL (LITTLE OLD LADY) (Blog)
LOL is my author's blog, the one associated with this website. Watch for news about my current work, previews of work-in-progress, what I'm reading, what I'm thinking about, what's going on around me, and probably an occasional soliloquy on my cat.

DOOMED TO REPEAT HISTORY: THE HEARTBREAKING SAGA OF THE ANTI-VACCINATION MOVEMENT
A couple of months before her third birthday, my daughter was stricken with Haemophilus meningitis, a disease that can now be prevented by vaccination. Fortunately, after three weeks in the hospital and intensive antibiotic treatment, plus two spinal taps and a severe case of hospital-acquired salmonella, she survived without sequelae. In the wake of a powerful anti-vaccination movement, many children are once again left unprotected from Haemophilus meningitis, and many more will fall victim to this and other preventable diseases when there are too few vaccinated individuals to provide "herd immunity." Many parents continue to be misled by a cruel hoax that endangers not only their own children but Society as a whole.

TOBACCO: FOOD'S EVIL TWIN (the blog)
This blog, associated with an informational website of the same name, explores with a more topical focus some of the issues raised by the website - that is, the ways in which the intersecting claims of food and tobacco have influenced the human condition at the micro and macro levels, from the perspective of a researcher who has studied the effects of smoking on appetite, body weight, body image, and eating behavior. New entries are no longer being posted.

LIFE AFTER CIGARETTES (the blog)
For about a year after my self-help book, Life After Cigarettes: For Women Who Want to Control their Weight and Look Great While Living a Smoke-Free Life, was first published, I maintained a blog designed to reinforce the book's message by providing guidance and encouragement to women smokers terrified of gaining weight after quitting, as well as to former smokers who'd like to go back and get it right. Although new entries are no longer being posted, the original 40 entries can still be accessed and remain potentially useful to their intended readership.
